Learning About Nature and Tradition
Okinawa is a popular destination for school trips, with most coming from mainland Japan. Their programs used to weigh heavily toward sightseeing, but in recent years have been shifting toward hands-on type of activities like marine sports (diving, sea kayak etc.), making earthenware and glassware, and learning traditional performance arts.
In Onna Village, the Chamber of Commerce is taking a lead role in organizing hands-on programs for these students visiting the village every year. Hands-on learning experience is very appealing and is expected to bring repeat visitors in the future.
In cooperation with villagers, we will continue to work toward developing instructors and guides for these programs, building new facilities and improve the existing ones, and creating programs with distinct and attractive features.
