  1. Overview of Onna Village
    • Nature-rich Onna Village is located at the center of mainland Okinawa, with beautiful coral reefs spreading along its coastline.
    • The total area of Onna Village is 50.77km2 (12,540 acres). It has an elongated shape, measuring 27.4 km (17 miles) from north to south and 4.2 km (2.6 miles) from east to west.
    • Population: Approximately 10,000.
    • Onna Village is one of Okinawa’s representative resort destinations, with many large hotels and golf courses; numerous tourists from within and out of Japan visit the village every year.
  2. Overview of the Planned Construction Site
    • Total area is 280 ha (692 acres). Zone A is hilly land surrounded by Ryukyu pine forests, and Zone B is situated along the coast.
    • Zone A: Most of its 270 ha (667 acres) land is owned by Onna Village, to be leased to the university for free.
    • Zone B: Most of its 10 ha (25 acres) is publicly owned, and with its beautiful beach there is potential for effective use.
    • The natural environment of the planned site is excellent, rich with subtropical features, and we strongly believe it would provide a research environment that fully satisfies the needs of a world-class university.
    • Onna Village expects to progress along with the new university by placing it at the core of the village’s plan to develop human resources for the next generation.
  3. Accessibility
    • The distance from the site to Naha Airport is 40 km (25 miles), which is about an hour drive using the Okinawa Expressway. A number of road development projects are in progress (i.e. bypass, airport road), the completion of which should further shorten the travel time.
    • Within a 10-minute drive of: Elementary/junior high schools and other public facilities, medical clinics, shops, and restaurants.
    • Within a 30-minute drive of: High schools, international schools, a prefectural hospital, and a large shopping mall.
