The entire length of the coastline that stretches for some 40 km through Onna Village is designated a seashore semi-national park for its astonishing beauty. Its rich environmental resources have been well utilized to make Onna one of Japan's top resort destinations; more than two million tourists visit and stay in Onna every year.
In other news, we had long been enticing Okinawa's new graduate university to locate here, and our efforts bore fruit on April 11, 2003, when Onna Village was chosen as the location for this world-class institution. It is expected to make great contributions to the development of the prefecture.
Along with tourism development, we also consider education, social welfare, and environmental conservation to be our important responsibility.
We live in a fast-changing society. We will continue to work to enrich social welfare, for our society is ailing from declining birthrates and an aging population, conserve the natural environment, and promote further development to build a better village with the postgraduate university at its core.
